Google rolls out second core update of the year

Google announced on Monday 4th that it was just beginning to roll out the May 2020 core update. It’s the second core update of the year; the last one being in January.

We know that Google is continually tweaking its algorithm and that smaller updates are happening all the time, but the search engine tends to roll out a more significant update every few months or so.

As always, it’s expected to take a week or two to roll out, so if you haven’t seen any change yet, it might be still to come.

As updates go though, it seems fairly “business as usual”, with Google claiming that “our guidance about such updates remains as we’ve covered before.” Essentially Google is always working to improve its search results to provide the best possible results for each query – so working to be the best business you can, acquiring authoritative links naturally, and producing informative and relevant content are still high up the agenda.

If you have seen a change in positions, it’s always best to let the dust settle before you take action. Positions can fluctuate a lot, especially initially, and it may be as much to do with other websites as your own.
