The Orange Project – #WorthLiving

“What if we could write a note that could save a life?”

What started out as an idea, has now become a global movement to reduce the stigma of suicide and raise awareness of suicide.

The Orange Project and its #WorthLiving online campaign, was created by Jennifer Dee, Vice President and Director of Integrated production at McCann Health New jersey, following the very personal tragedy of losing her long-term boyfriend to suicide.

Using orange post-it-notes, schools and groups were invited to write notes of encouragement and positivity for friends and families. The aim behind it being to reach out to those their darkest moments and show that there is hope.

The colour orange was chosen carefully, as one that offers “emotional strength in difficult times and represents optimism and rejuvenation. It stimulates communication and assists in recovery from grief.

Setting out to hold the record for the largest online photo album of handwritten notes, it was officially confirmed that the Orange Project had achieved the title with a total of 34,244 photos of handwritten notes from all over the world.

There are more than 2,000 suicides a day worldwide, and in the UK it’s the single biggest killer of men under 45. What’s perhaps quite pertinent, is the thought that these might be preventable.
